Chlorination Equipment
Chlorination is one of the most commonly used sterilisation methods for potable water and liquid wastes. Chlorine is commercially available in gaseous form, in liquid form as sodium hypochlorite and in powder (tablet form) as calcium hypochlorite. Liquid chlorination is a simple form of chlorination used for larger wastewater treatment plants. Gaseous chlorination is rarely used these days due to the workplace health and safety dangers involved with this type of system.
An economical, simple and reliable chlorination solution is the tablet feed system, made up of the tablet dispenser unit and easy-to-use chlorine tablets. Operating by itself without power, this low cost system is ideal for remote installations, including isolated communities, remote residential areas, farms, recreation areas, rural water systems, housing developments, water towers, pump wells and industrial facilities. A single chlorination unit can purity up to 200 000 litres of water a day. Multiple units can purify higher flow rates.
This type of chlorinator has no moving or metal parts. The tablets drop into the vertical tubes, water contacts with the tablets at the bottom of the tubes and dissolves the tablets. As the bottom tablets dissolve, the remaining tablets slide down the tube. A slotted weir plate controls the chlorine dosage in treated effluent disinfection.
In potable water treatment the chlorine concentration is controlled to a finer degree by using a bypass valve in the water feed system.
The tablet feed system requires almost no maintenance. Refilling the tubes with tablets and an occasional internal inspection of the unit for clogging, are the only maintenance procedures required. The chlorine tablet is 70% chlorine, is stable and shows minimal chlorine loss after more than one year of storage.
The Benefits
- Effective - the chlorine disinfection system provides continuous and controlled release of chlorine to kill harmful bacteria.
- Economical - no moving parts to wear out and no metal parts to corrode means low initial investment and minimal operating and maintenance costs save money.
- Safe - chlorine tablets are safer to handle and store than granular or liquid forms of chlorine.
- Easy to use - the system adjusts to variable water flows. Tablets inside the tubes slide down as bottom tablets dissolve.
- Easy to maintain - no moving parts, no power required.
- Adjustable - chlorine levels are controlled by tube arrangement and bypass valve adjustment
- Durable - the unit is built with non-corrosive polyethylene and PVC plastics.
